Answering Instagram and Facebook comments automatically: what Meta actually allows

Comment-to-DM works, but not the way most people are told. The one-reply rule, the 24-hour window, and how shops get their Page restricted.

Every shop selling on Instagram in Nepal has the same evening: forty comments saying "price?" under a reel, and no way to answer them all before the interest goes cold. Automating the reply is the obvious fix, and it works — but the rules around it are strict, and the shops that get their Page restricted are almost always the ones nobody told.

Here is what Meta actually permits.

A comment earns exactly one private reply

When somebody comments on your post, you may send them one private message. Not a sequence. One.

That message does not open a conversation. Until the person writes back, you cannot send a second thing — no follow-up, no "still interested?", no catalogue an hour later. Sending it anyway is what gets messaging access removed.

So the single message has to carry its weight: the price, the sizes, and a reason to reply.

The 24-hour window

Once they do write back, a real conversation opens and you have 24 hours to answer freely. Every new message from them restarts the clock.

After 24 hours of silence, the window closes and you are back to needing them to speak first. A campaign built on messaging your old contacts is a campaign built on a window that shut.

The public reply is half the trick

The private message is private — which means nobody else scrolling the post can see that you answered. A short public reply under the comment does two things: it tells the other thirty people that comments here get answered, and it tells the person to check their inbox.

"Sent you the price in DMs 📩" is enough.

What gets a Page restricted

The pattern is always the same shape:

  • More than one message on the strength of a single comment
  • Messaging people who never wrote to you
  • The same text to everybody, sent fast enough to look automated
  • Ignoring the window and sending after it closes

None of these are grey areas.

Doing it in Nepali

Two practical things about running this here. Your customers write "kati", "kati ho", "price" and "inbox" — all four, and in both scripts. A keyword list with only English in it misses most of the comments.

And Facebook Pages matter more than the Instagram advice online suggests. A great many shops here run a Page with no Instagram account linked to it at all, and comment-to-DM works on both.

Where BaseBlock stands

BaseBlock's flows follow the one-reply rule in the engine, not as advice: a second message on a comment is refused before it can be sent. Templates ship for Instagram and for Facebook Pages, in the words customers here actually use.

Meta approval has come through, and connecting is being switched on. You can build and test your flows today; they begin sending for your shop the moment your Page is connected. Everything else — the shared inbox, orders, billing, the website — works now.

Run your shop on BaseBlock

Products, stock, orders and billing. A website that takes orders into the same tables. Free on one product, priced in rupees.
